In-Season Fruits and Vegetables: Spring

Hey everyone!


Bringing you your quarterly update on in-season fruits and vegetables for the Midwest region! Even though we have the ability and privileged access to drive to the grocery store and take our pick of any fruit or vegetable, picking fruits and veg in season for your region or state supports local farms! If something isn’t in season, but still available at your grocery store, you can bet it’s probably not coming from your state/region. Not that it’s not fresh or good, but somethings buying a product that hasn’t had a lot of travel time and is in-season will taste so much better.


I know this time in our lives it might be hard to take time and whip up a healthy/green meal. Or easy. I don’t know your life. Whether it’s motivation or time you’re lacking, start with buying a vegetable or two adding to a recipe or sauteing and having it on the side. It’ll get easier to include more each day, I promise!


That’s my opinion! Plus this list might help you narrow down your grocery list for foods that are at their peak and freaky freshhhh.





In Season Fruits + Veg- Spring:


  • Arugula

  • Asparagus

  • Beets

  • Chard

  • Carrots

  • Fennel

  • Most Herbs (Parsley, specifically)

  • Mushrooms

  • Romaine

  • Parsnips (but who eats these?)

  • Radishes

  • Rhubarb

  • Spinach


Most of these vegetables can be used, easily, in a salad. Take a bit of arugula and spinach as your base, roast some carrots and beets, chop up some radishes, add some herbs for more flavor, add a fat of choice like avocado, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, add a protein, and add dressing of choice!


Easy peasy!
