DIY All-In-One Lemongrass Hair Mask

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone had a great week! This week we celebrated World Mental Health Day- a very important day for so many of us. I wrote a snippet on my Instagram yesterday, and bottom line, be kind to yourself. Give yourself permission that you’re allowed to work on yourself and you’re not expected to be perfect. It is possible to live a life free from your demons. It’s not easy, and everyday you have to work and fight but it’s all worth it in the end.

In other news, this week I’ve been working on creating a DIY hair mask!! I’ve been really into hair care lately. I don’t get highlights in my hair often, but I still want to take care of it and not cause any more damage that all the chemicals might be doing.

Sure, some hair masks are pretty cheap to buy at target, but instead of paying $10 for one why not just create one at home with the ingredients already on hand?

Whenever I buy a hair mask- I want to tackle 5 million things at once. I want to moisturize, fix split ends, have shiny hair, hydration, strengthen, brighten, and everything in between. I figured why not create a hair mask that does all of those things? So that’s just what I did. It might not look the prettiest, but it sure does smell great and the benefits are unmatched.

All-In-One Lemongrass Hair Mask


1 Egg Yolk

1 ½ Banana

¼ Cup Olive Oil

½ Cup Coconut Oil- Melted

Juice from ½ Lemon

¼ Avocado

1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar

1 tsp Ginger

Drizzle of Honey

Few Drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil


Mix ingredients together in a mixing bowl, then place in a blender or food processor to combine together. Blend until all ingredients are well combined.


When washing your hair, apply shampoo and rinse. Apply the hair mask for either 3, 10 or 30 minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly and apply your conditioner. Rinse thoroughly.

You can leave the hair mask in overnight, but will have to sleep with a shower/hair net!

All of these foods have so many amazing benefits for your hair:

Egg Yolks are great proteins for strengthening the ends of our hair

Olive Oil is amazing at hydrating our hair and making it feel silky smooth

Coconut Oil is the best for deep moisture and shine

Bananas are good at replenishing our hair and adding potassium

Apple Cider Vinegar helps with frizzy, tangly hair

Lemon helps with dandruff and dryness

Avocados are a great balancer between dryness and oily hair if you have combination hair

Honey is super moisturizing

Ginger is very calming and soothing for the hair

Lemongrass is a great additive for smell

Afterwards, my hair felt so fresh, crisp and shiny! I've shared a picture of my hair after following the directions of applying the hair mask. Beforehand, my hair hadn't been washed in 24 hours. I shampooed, applied the hair mask for 30 minutes then conditioned and followed the process with blow drying.

So, next time you’re in need of a little self care- whip up this hair mask and give yourself a little rejuvenation!
