Body Positivity + Loving Yourself This Summer
Hey guys! Wow what a whirlwind 2020 has been. Personally, from quarantine to now having a new job life has been crazy, and I know I haven’t written a blog post in a while.
As you may have seen on my Instagram post- I moved to Chicago! I have a new job working in eating disorders, and I’m so excited to share with you guys what I learn along the way. This has been a dream of mine, and I can’t wait to see where this career takes me. Since things have been so crazy- from packing, moving, finishing my old job, getting ready for a new job, and getting settled in I’m pooped. I’ve had to take some time for myself. I’ve definitely already felt homesick, but that just reminds me how thankful and grateful I am to have such a wonderful family and support system back home. If you miss everything after one day you know you have it good. But we were all meant for new chapters and beginnings. I know I need this in order to grow and learn. It’s going to be hard. I’m going to/already have had moments of doubt and defeat, but I have to trust the process. With all that being said, I know I have to work extra hard this summer on self love and confidence. That’s what is going to get me through. Although I’m walking into my new situation with a boat load of self love and confidence, there’s always room for more. Especially in times of change, what you’ve got is never enough. Change is always hard even if it’s exciting and something you’ve been waiting for. This change hit me hard and fast, and I’m still processing it all. Even when you’ve dreamed of something for so long it’s such a weird feeling when it finally comes to fruition.
So this all got me thinking of ways myself and you guys can show yourself self love this summer! (and forever, but baby steps!) Especially with body positivity because summer is so heavily revolved around our bodies, they need extra care this summer.
Write Three Things You Love About Your Body
Every morning and night, write down three things you love about your body- even if you don’t believe it in the moment
Find A Body Positive Book
Grab a feel good book or one about body image to read at the lake/beach/pool, because knowledge is power
Buy Some Cute Outdoor Accessories
Buy some pretty jewelry, a body posi beach towel, a beach tote- all these can take your mind off the pressure and our society’s importance of finding the “perfect” swimsuit. Sometimes all you need is sweet sunhat or delicate necklace to boost your confidence when hitting the water
Have Body Image Conversations With Friends
Share your insecurities with others. You never know who might be going through the same thing. Make this summer about connection, support and understanding. It’ll lift a weight off your shoulders and set you up to rock and roll. At the end of the day, you’ll all realize those things don’t matter, it’s that you’re together
Find A Swimsuit YOU’RE Comfortable In
I don’t care what the latest trends in swimsuits are. Chances are it’s going to change next summer. Find a swimsuit that you feel comfortable and confident in, regardless of what others are going to think. You’re going to feel more confident when you feel more comfortable and staying true to yourself and your style
Follow Body Positive Accounts On Social Media
Go follow @NEDA, @Iskra, @NourishandEat @Lizzo and so many more for inspiration and uplifting advice on how to love yourself and your body.
There’s no room for hate for your mind or your body this summer. Life has been crazy and will probably stay that way so we can all benefit from showing and spreading the love.
